Program Description

Description

Presented by the Sustainable WH Commission’s Nature-based Solutions team.

Will you join the millions of people converting part of their lawn space into a pollinator or native plant habitat?  Are you ready to learn how?  West Hartford Libraries are partnering with the Sustainable WH Commission with local partners including the WH Garden Club (www.westhartfordgardenclub.org) and Grassroots (www.grassrootswh.org) to offer an in-person workshop that will be useful for beginner to more experienced gardeners.  Learn how to assess your yard through the eyes of the pollinators we share space with and walk away with all of the educational tools you will need to install a garden that is right for you.  What is the best place to start?  For many people it is the front yard or trouble spots where water collects.  How big?  It’s okay to start small!  We will discuss different layouts, plant lists good for most gardens, where to buy them and all of the details in between.  We will also save time for organic lawn care tips and tricks.  Are you an apartment dweller?  The knowledge you gain here will help you become an advocate for nature-based solutions everywhere.  Don’t forget to tune-in to the virtual q/a on June 25 to answer all of the questions that come up only after you’ve begun planning.
