Program Description

Description

West Hartford’s history is made up of a patchwork of citizens born here and those who made it their adopted home. West Hartford resident Inez Temple—playwright, poet, painter, costume designer, author, and renowned world traveler—fell into the latter category. But who really was Inez?

Inez was also a teacher, an historic preservationist, and an adventurer who narrowly escaped the German Army in World War I, saved the Mark Twain House from destruction, and forged an intimate 15-year relationship with one of Hartford’s most prominent daughters. Local History Librarian Brett Freiburger will take you from the Midwest to Marseille on a journey to rediscover the life of Inez Temple and shine a light on her contributions to local and national history.

Registration required. Registration opens one month before the program at 7:00pm.
