Description

Trees have inspired artists for ages! Explore the works of artists in the collection of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art including: Charles De Wolf Brownell’s iconic, The Charter Oak, a symbol of American independence; Georgia O’Keeffe’s The Lawrence Tree, where we can imagine a private refuge; and Marc Chagall’s Autumn in the Village, with exuberant color that intertwines the visible world and the interior world. Slides of art depicting trees from the Museum's permanent collection will be shown and discussed.

TREE PICTURED: Charles de Wolf Brownell, The Charter Oak, 1857. Oil on canvas. Gift of Mrs. Josephine Marshall Dodge and Marshall Jewell Dodge, in memory of Marshall Jewell. Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art

This program is also made possible with generous funding from the Thomas F. Kilfoil Memorial Bequest.
