Program Description

Description

Explore the history of cannabis, from traditional medical use through prohibition and modern legalization, followed by an introduction to the cannabis plant and the parts most relevant to medical treatment. The session will cover how cannabinoids work in the body, with an overview of key compounds including THC, CBD, CBN, CBG, and CBC, as well as the different forms of medical cannabis such as inhaled products, edibles, capsules, tinctures, topicals, and transdermal options, including how onset and duration can vary. Attendees will also learn what to expect when visiting a dispensary, how to ask informed questions, and basic safety and dosing considerations, along with an overview of local and state medical cannabis laws. Come prepared with questions!

Kevin King is a pharmacist whose commitment to patient-centered care was shaped by his experience overcoming a childhood leg amputation. After starting his career in functional medicine and compounding pharmacy, he became one of New York’s first medical cannabis pharmacists in 2016. Nearly a decade later, Kevin continues to advocate for cannabis as medicine, championing research, education, and safe, effective therapeutic use.
