Join film professor Nick Rocco Scalia for a screening and discussion of the Films of John Carpenter. From the genre-defining works, to the cult classics, to the overlooked gems, Nick dissects this master of horror, science fiction, and beyond! We will show each film, then have a spirited post-film discussion (optional). 

NICK ROCCO SCALIA is a graduate of the University of Hartford and Trinity College and is the producer and co-host of the podcast Precinct 13: The Movies & Music of John Carpenter. He teaches Communication & Media Studies at Post University and is a corporate/marketing video producer, independent filmmaker and screenwriter, and regular contributor to the long-running publication Film Threat.

Jan. 22 - Halloween (1978) – The malevolent Michael Myers returns home in the horror classic that inspired a legion of imitators, none of which could get within slashing distance of its accomplished and scarily beautiful visual storytelling.

Feb. 19 - The Thing  (1982) – Long before The X-Files warned us to “trust no one,” Carpenter took that paranoid idea to extremes in a tense and visceral remake of his idol Howard Hawks' work of cosmic horror, set in a snowbound Antarctic research outpost.

March 18 - Big Trouble in Little China (1986) – Carpenter re-teams with Kurt Russell in a cult-classic action comedy that's as rollicking as they come, as Russell's wisecracking trucker Jack Burton gets caught up in a mystical war between good and evil that's packed with martial arts and practical special FX. 

April 15 - They Live (1988) – [Originally scheduled for April 22] Carpenter sends up the excesses of the Reagan eighties with an over-the-top sci-fi action-thriller, featuring one of the most comically over-extended fight scenes in cinema history as well as an infamous one-liner about what to do when you're all out of bubblegum.

May 20 - In the Mouth of Madness (1994) – Inspired by the atmospheric terrors of Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft, this delightful descent into insanity sends Jurassic Park's Sam Neill on the trail of something far worse than rampaging dinosaurs: an otherworldly evil that's connected to a bestselling horror author.

PARKING: There is ample library parking in the nearby Isham Garage. Please bypass the garage payment kiosks and come directly to the lecture in the Library Meeting Room, 20 South Main Street, where you may validate your parking with your license plate number.
