Program Description

Description

Wednesday, October 24: Almost immediately after the 2016 election, George Orwell’s 1984 shot to the top of Amazon’s best-seller list.

In this presentation, Kettie Marks will offer an overview of 1984 followed by a discussion of how Orwell uses literary techniques to establish the novel’s mood, themes, and characters. She will also outline the parallels that exist between Oceania and today’s America.

Kettie Marks is a retired English teach from Glastonbury and has taught this program at the University of Connecticut's Adult Learning Program. Marks was also a Debate Coach in Brooklyn and an Adjunct Speech Lecturer at Manchester Community College.

Park in the nearby Isham Garage and validate your parking inside the library.
