MARTHA HALL KELLY is a native New Englander who lives in Litchfield County Connecticut. She earned journalism degrees from Syracuse and Northwestern Universities, worked as an advertising copywriter for many years and raised three wonderful children, who are now mostly out of the nest. Her debut novel Lilac Girls became an instant New York Times bestseller in April of 2016 and spent 56 weeks on the paperback bestseller list. Now, in Sunflower Sisters, Kelly tells the story of Georgeanna Woolsey, a Union nurse who joins the war effort during the Civil War, and whose calling leads her to cross paths with both Jemma, a young enslaved girl who is sold and conscripted into the army, and Anne-May Wilson, a southern plantation mistress whose husband enlists.

In this virtual event, Martha will primarily be talking about Lilac Girls. A little background about Lilac Girls: Inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine, this debut novel reveals a story of love, redemption, and secrets that were hidden for decades.
