Chronicling Bucknoll: An Author Talk with Mary Lowengard (In-Person)

In The Bucknoll Cottage Chronicles, author Mary Lowengard reveals herself to be a long-time West Hartford resident on the first page. On January 24, 2024 she returns to the West Hartford Public Library to introduce her publishing debut. At this Author Talk, Mary will read from the book, and describe what led her to write it as well as the agonies and ecstasies of self-publishing. A Q&A will follow.

The Bucknoll Cottage Chronicles is subtitled “Sex and the City meets Under the Tuscan Sun, but no sex, no city and in the Poconos.” The book, which straddles the genres of humor essay and memoir, was labeled “a big-hearted yet sharp-witted companion to navigate the world of cottage living,” by Publishers Weekly.  And, as another reviewer noted, reading the book will make you “laugh until your sides ache.”

ABOUT MARY LOWENGARD

An alumna of Bugbee, Oxford (now Kingswood Oxford) and Chaffee (today Loomis Chaffee) Schools, Mary Lowengard grew up in West Hartford, as did her mother, grandparents, five siblings and various cousins. She now resides in the greater New York City area—which she extends to include West Hartford. A long-time financial writer with a sideline in essays that find humor in serious business, Mary settled into freelance writing in the late 1980s. The Bucknoll Cottage Chronicles originally appeared as a column in the Buck Hill (PA) Breeze.
