Program Description

Description

International MAKE MUSIC DAY is celebrated yearly on June 21. This year, West Hartford Libraries will contribute to the town's Make Music Day festivities by hosting three performances outdoors on the Blue Back Square Plaza (behind the Noah Webster Library, 20 S. Main Street) starting at 4:00pm, Friday. All are free.

• 4:00pm - Nekita Waller (Connecticut's State Troubadour) - Nekita Waller and her band, offering a popular mix of soul, rock, and jazz sounds. Nekita is also an experienced studio session artist as a recording artist, lending her vocal talent on projects with Grammy and Emmy award winning producers. As a soloist, Nekita often sings the National Anthem for the NBA, WNBA, and DIV I College sports teams.

• 4:30pm - HARMONICA HAPPINESS - Show us your library card (from any library) and receive your own harmonica (free, while supplies last) courtesy of the Connecticut State Library and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Please arrive on time - harmonica supplies are limited to 200. Nekita Waller and her band will show you how to play simple song (a note or two), then a group photo will be taken. Lots of fun, and all part of the library's Year of Happiness!

• 6:00pm - Jake Kulak and the LowDown -  Guitar-driven blues and blues-rock with soulful guitar solos and impressive improvisations. Jake Kulak and the LowDown is one of only six bands to win Boston's House of Blues emerging artist competition. Band members: Jake Kulak, Guitar and Vocals; Anthony Dailey on bass; Jeremy Peck on drums.

• 7:30pm - Audio Jane - Atmospheric rock band with Sarah Pech on vocals and rhythm guitar. "Led by the sultry and often spellbinding vocals of front woman Sarah Pech and a full canvas of gorgeously emotive songs... that tend to wrap themselves around the listener like a warm lover on a cold night." (Hartford Courant)

All are invited. Arrive early. Outdoors, rain or shine. No reservations needed. Make Music Day performances have been made possible by a grant from the Thomas F. Kilfoil Memorial Bequest, West Hartford Public Library Foundation.
