Program Description

Description

Thursday, November 29 - This presentation examines how popular media (books, films) tend to portray military personnel/veterans. For the purpose of ratings and best sellers, military personnel and veterans are often portrayed as super heroic and or suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or a related psychological disorder, in such a way that they appear out of control, dangerous, incapable of functioning within society, etc. We will explore how this message impacts the public's view of veterans, as well as how this may impact the identity of our veterans.

The presentation will include a brief overview of post traumatic stress disorder and  provide examples of films that shine a spotlight on the heroism or struggles of military experience. The goal of this presentation is to have the audience examine how media portrays military personnel and veterans, and access the impact of this portrayal.

Park in the nearby Isham Garage and validate your parking inside the library.
