In this interactive workshop explore how to be a savvy news consumer online and on social media. Participants will learn about relevant and pressing topics including the spread of misinformation and disinformation. Participants will also learn and build critical evaluation and verification skills they can use when consuming and sharing digital information. This workshop will be comprised of a presentation as well as opportunities for real-time discussions and hands-on practice examples.
This workshop is presented in partnership with The Boston Public Library.
Bio: Erica Husting is a journalism and media specialist at The Boston Public Library. A large part of her work focuses on teaching workshops and planning programming about media and news literacy. She is especially passionate about sharing approachable and tangible skills people can use on a daily basis as they navigate the information landscape. She holds an MLIS from University of Washington and a BS in journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Before her work in academic and public libraries, Erica worked in the communications and public relations fields.
