Program Description

Description

Life-threatening emergencies can happen fast and, while our emergency medical responders are quick to arrive, any delay between injury and the initiation of care can result in greater injury or even death. Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries are best positioned to provide the first care, which should focus on the most essential actions including summoning help, moving someone away from ongoing danger, stopping severe bleeding, positioning the injured so they can breathe, keeping them warm, and providing comfort.

This course looks to educate the public about the important role you play in providing these potentially life-saving interventions prior to the arrival of emergency services.

This course will be taught by Bob Hilborn, a member of West Hartford's Office of Emergency Management and Leader of West Hartford's Community Emergency Response Team. He is also a nationally-registered EMT and instructor at the New Britain EMS Academy. So, he apparently likes it when stuff goes wrong...but truly enjoys helping people get through their toughest of times.
