Description
This program is presented in partnership with Bloomfield Public Library.
Gender-affirming care for the transgender and gender-diverse population is under attack. Misinformation and false information are being spread by politicians and social media. This program will clarify what are the truths and the lies, supported by reputable medical sources, mental health sources, and evidence-based studies. This will be a safe space to ask questions and have respectful discussions regarding gender-affirming care in our current environment.
This program will also include using gender-inclusive Language, understanding the importance of chosen names and pronouns, finding available reputable resources, and the importance of becoming an ally to the transgender and gender-diverse community. Jillian will explore topics and issues across the lifespan of the trans population based on her education, experience in the field, and her lived personal experience.
Jillian is a transgender woman who began her transition in 2016 at the age of 55. She recently received her master's degree in social work at age 61. She is a licensed psychotherapist, social worker, advocate, and has organized support groups for transgender/gender diverse children and young adults. Jillian co-authored two published transgender studies at Yale University and is a published author of her book, "Transitioning Later in Life: A Personal Guide.” She is now working at a private practice as a licensed therapist and educator for the transgender/gender-diverse community.
